Bar the doors! The Supernova Elites are coming!

VIP-Club.jpgIn March and April, finding the first PokerStars Supernova Elite of the year is a fun little challenge. When will it happen? Who will it be?

When autumn dawns and slumps toward winter, however, the Supernova Elites begin to come out of the woodwork. Their ten months of effort has finally paid off and they wander the PokerStars tables like zombie hordes. Instead of brains, they eat up VIP Player Points and chips.

In all truth, this is the time of year when we start to see tons of new Supernova Elites, that select group of PokerStars players who have managed to accumulate 1,000,000 VPPs between January 1st and December 31st.

We've had a few more Elites knocking on our door in recent days. Here are a few that we held down long enough to get more than their name, rank, and serial number. Be aware...they come from all parts of the world.

New Supernova Elite alex333888 is a 27-year player from Singapore. He just finished law school, but decided to play poker for a living instead.

"Much to the chagrin of my mum," he said, "but she is resigned to her fate now."

Now he plays on Pot-Limit Omaha on PokerStars every day and is working to move up in limits. Previous attempts have been a little frustrating for him.

"That's probably because I can be quite tiltdonk-ish and lose relatively insane amounts during some sessions," he confessed.

Across the Pacific in the friendly confines of Quebec, Canada sits another Supernova Elite who goes by rSMig. Also 27-years old, he is a 24-tabler who kills the time in between hands (really) by watching television. At one time, he was a fairly consistent winner up at the 100/200 limit hold'em tables. He moved up to 250/500 mixed and by his own admission, probably wasn't ready for it.

"So at the start of 2009 I was basically broke online, and since we just bought a huge house here, selling it wasn't really an option," he said. "So with the little I had left online I kinda decided to give Supernova Elite a shot by playing a lot lower than I used to. That way I would lower my variance greatly and be able to pay the bills."

It worked. He's now been a Supernova Elite for a few weeks and is working to rack up another 500,000 VPPs before heading off to the PCA in January.

Now it's time to cross the Atlantic where we find the 35-year-old Kipa58 in Riga, Latvia. By the end of last year, he had racked up 800,000 VIP Player Points without even trying.

Now he's collected his million with weeks to spare by playing Pot-Lot Omaha at anywhere from 2/4 to 10/20. It's got him feeling reflective.

"I'm thinking a lot what I'm doing and why," he said. "It's an interesting period in my life."

For now, he's going to continue the poker grind and work toward his next big challenge: EPT Monte Carlo.

We'd tell you more, but we are already hearing about the final pack of Elite shuffling toward our door. They want our VPPs and they won't stop trying to get them until the December 31 deadline.

Will you be one of them?
