Leaving Vegas is usually tough. Getting here is always an adventure. I left a couple days ago to see my family. Getting home was easy and as sweet as I can express. Getting back involved a cramped plane, thunder clouds over Vegas, a diversion to Phoenix, and an overzealous pump man at the refueling station who apparently thought we were flying to Vanuatu instead of a few miles to Vegas. After he dutifully removed an unnecessary 7000 pounds of jet fuel from our plane, I made it to Vegas in the middle of this fine morning. Ahead of me and more than 90 PokerStars players today is what figures to be another huge $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event. All the other events of this buy-in have pulled more than 2,000 people, and, based on what I heard in a walk through the poker room this morning, today is likely to be no different.
At 5am, people were still lining up for satellites. Late-night drinking types were still playing cash games and talking about winning a buy-in to the day's $1,500. I didn't have the heart to tell them that if they got in, they would be playing for 14 or 15 hours on no sleep. Still, I wish them well.
The people of import today, however, are the 94 PokerStars W$, FPP, and sponsored players playing in today's monster event. Here's a list of the folks we'll be watching as the day goes on. Good luck to everybody.
