"Who do you think is going to win this?" He said.
"Well, I hope that it's Paul Phillips," I said, "but I'm also pulling for Greg Raymer and Barry Greenstein. To be honest, I think the players from the big game at Bellagio have the best chance to take this down, because they're used to the stakes and this particular game, so I'll have to put a dollar down on Barry."
I lost a dollar this morning, as Team PokerStars' Barry Greenstein was eliminated from the $50,000 HORSE event in 12th place by Chip Reese.
Based solely on the caliber of the players, everyone expected this would be a challenging event. However, walking through the halls last night, I heard several pros comment that the incredibly long days and surprisingly fast tournament structure was having as much of an impact on their game as the level of competition. You always need to get lucky to make it deep in a tournament, and near the end Barry found himself in and out of Lady Luck's good graces.
Just a few hands after Barry won a race against Joe Cassidy with JT vs 77, Barry got all his chips in the middle with 99, but ran into Chip Reese's QQ.
Barry won $205,920, which will, of course, go to one of Barry's many charities.
The final table, which was finally set after nineteen hours of play, will begin at 9:00 pm tonight. It comes as no surprise that three of the final nine are regulars in the gig game at Bellagio.
